Overview of Idea

All Girl Everything Ultimate Program (AGE UP) is an empowerment-based leadership program for girls in South Seattle. We use girls’ passion for Ultimate Frisbee as a hook to engage them in long-term intentional work developing critical awareness, leadership skills, positive identity, and community.

The Specifics: What will the $5,000 fund?

AGE UP is wrapping up its second awesome year. Our program runs from winter to spring without funding for summer. The $5,000 will change this! We will create a pilot summer program, “AGE UP Summer Sessions,” to expand opportunities for girls in South Seattle. Like our winter and spring programs, the Summer Sessions will combine leadership development and Ultimate Frisbee. First, the Sessions will involve our continuing participants in workshops, youth-driven program visioning, and strategic planning (in a fun way!) Second, the Sessions will allow us to host two all-girl Ultimate Frisbee tournaments to bring girls together from all across Seattle. The $5,000 will deepen our leadership development work and expand our reach.

It has been so incredible seeing the support for AGE UP! We've climbed from 12 place all the way up to 2nd in the last week. People all over the country have been pulling for us! We are so close! AGE UP is one of the best programs that I have been involved with, the coordinator are always willing to lend a helping hand and really care about us, the participants. They take time from their already busy lives to plan and sit down with each other and talk about what we will do in each session. AGE UP is really a great program so please consider voting.

This program turns ultimate frisbee into so much more than a sport. If you can find a program that turns girls of all class and race into leaders - wonderful. But look no further than here. I appreciate it so much that this program was available for my daughter to participate in. Having lived with alopecia areata all of her 13 years of life, this program has helped her build her low self esteem. She felt accepted and loved by all the girls around her. I hope this will be available for many more years to come for girls that have a difficult time fitting in like my daughter did.

As a coordinator for this program, just gotta give a shout-out to all the boss young people I get to hang out with at AGE UP - You all rock my world! Y'all are brilliant, caring, hilarious, crazy, honest, dedicated... and inspire me every day we get to hang out. Thanks for making this program what it is :)
