This summer, After-School All-Stars will convene our National Youth Advisory Board for a leadership and advocacy training summit in Washington DC. The National YAB is comprised of 15 outstanding middle school students who were selected to represent ASAS’ 82,000 participants across the country.
The funding will support ASAS’ National Youth Advisory Board Summit. In the summer of 2012, YAB students will begin their step forward as leaders by attending an innovative leadership-training summit in Washington DC where they will participate in advocacy and public speaking workshops, meet their Congressional representatives, lobby on the Hill, and advise ASAS on youth programming. YAB members will identify needs in their community and create strategic plans for leading service projects to address those issues. Upon returning to their schools, YAB students will utilize the leadership skills they developed during the National Summit to direct and mobilize their peers around service projects to create systemic change in their communities.
