NOMADgardens is a roaming community garden that utilizes vacant lots for neighborhood use in Mission Bay, SF, a neighborhood that has more open lots than active buildings. It will provide a gathering place for citizens to grow their own food, establish community relationships, and host events.
We want to have the garden up and running by August 1st! We have put together a detailed list of all the nitty gritty details, met with other community gardeners, and garnered community and city support. We will spend the $5000 on purchasing 30 containers, soil, seeds, tools, drip irrigation, fencing, and accessible walking path; securing required permits + insurance; installing the necessary water tap; and renting a forklift (or two) for construction. If we have any money left over, we will put it towards prototyping our soft-sided transportable container design for phase 2 of NOMADgardens.
