Overview of Idea

53% of adults in Los Angeles lack the basic reading and writing skills to access better jobs. The Los Angeles Public Library provides one-to-one tutoring for adults who want/need to improve their ability to read and write in English―for free. This program works, but we need more volunteers.

The Specifics: What will the $5,000 fund?

With your funding we can―with maximum creativity, joy, and care―create a volunteer recruitment campaign to let potential volunteers know we exist and help meet the demand of thousands who seek to improve their lives. Adult literacy is still a huge problem, and in the midst of this economic recession funding is fading. Just this year we learned that the Adult Education program in our public schools (that last reported serving over 275,000 people) is slated to be completely eliminated. This means more adults will turn to the Library for our literacy services. This grant will allow us to make a concerted push to recruit volunteer tutors across Los Angeles so that all adults that seek help will get help.

It's priceless The Los Angeles Public Library's mission and work. I can tell that for my own experiences. LAPL is my "Second Home. Thanks from the bottom of my heart. P.S. As a Socialpreneur, I spread and broaden its mission over our community and beyond The USA's frontiers
