Camp Homeward Bound is the nation's first summer sleep-away camp addressing the unique needs of New York City's homeless children. At camp, girls and boys escape the stress of shelter life to swim, hike, learn new skills, and make new friends. CHB is a lifeline for kids who desperately one.
Homelessness takes a deep emotional toll on the record 17,000 children who sleep in NYC shelters each night. That’s why Camp Homeward Bound, located on a beautiful lakefront in upstate New York, is so critical. Camp allows over 300 girls and boys to shed the burdens of homelessness in a supportive environment. The arts are central to our program, providing a vehicle for even the most troubled kids to express themselves. But our dance and exercise hall was originally constructed in the 1940’s and desperately needs repair. A $5,000 grant would greatly improve our dance and exercise studio to increase our programming – providing a transformative experience for even more campers.
