Overview of Idea

re:SEAT aims to address the blighted Mid-Market neighborhood of San Francisco through positive interventions on the sidewalk: public seating composed of sustainably-made hardscape and landscape elements that form an urban gathering space, creating a sense of community where it is most needed!

The Specifics: What will the $5,000 fund?

Our design team has collaborated with a construction company and a concrete product manufacturer, who will both provide at-cost or pro-bono services.

Our flexible kit of parts means that we can create various combinations of different concrete planters and wooden seats as site constraints and the budget dictate.

Our initial estimates are:
Concrete blocks (including planting material): $250-$450 each
Salvaged wood blocks: $25 each
Kinetic rocking chairs (not in picture): $250 each

We are looking to install the seating/landscape modules in August-September. We will also obtain permits from city authorities by that time.

We will be launching a Kickstarter campaign to seek additional funding for installing seating in more neighborhoods.
